Hmong American Pioneers

Hmong American Pioneers

This photo show two pioneers in Hmong American history, Elk Grove Mayor-elect Steve Ly and Judge Paul Lo. Steve Ly has been elected to three different political offices first to the Elk Grove Unified School Board in 2012 then to the Elk Grove City Council in 2014 and earlier this week Ly became the first Hmong American to be elected as Mayor of a city in the United States.

Paul Lo became the first Hmong American Judge in the United States when Governor Jerry Brown appointed him to the Superior Court of Merced County in December 2013.  Lo is the first Hmong attorney in California and he is also the first Hmong American elected in California to serve on the Merced City School District.
